How do I know if my tyres need replacing?

The legal minimum tread depth in Queensland is 1.5mm. You can check this by looking for the "wear indicators"—small rubber bars moulded into the grooves of the tyre. If the tread is level with these bars, your tyres are illegal and unsafe, especially in wet weather. Other signs include visible cracks in the sidewall, uneven wear patterns, or a vibration while driving. If you're unsure, pop in, and we can check them for you in minutes.

Can you repair a puncture, or do I need a brand new tyre?

It depends on where the puncture is located. If the nail or screw is in the central tread area, we can usually perform a safe, permanent repair. However, if the damage is on the sidewall or the "shoulder" of the tyre, it cannot be legally or safely repaired because that part of the tyre flexes while you drive. In that case, the tyre must be replaced to ensure your safety.

Do I really need a wheel alignment when I get new tyres?

Yes, we highly recommend it. A wheel alignment ensures your new tyres are sitting perfectly flat on the road and pointing straight. If your wheels are misaligned (even slightly), your brand-new tyres will wear unevenly and could be ruined in just a few thousand kilometres. Getting an alignment protects your investment and ensures your car handles correctly.
