My temperature gauge is rising into the red. Is it safe to drive to the workshop?

No, it is not safe. If your car is overheating, driving it even a few kilometres can cause catastrophic engine damage, such as a blown head gasket or a warped cylinder head. How do I know if I have a coolant leak?

Common signs of failure include a high-pitched whining noise from the front of the engine, coolant leaking from the pump area, or an overheating engine. We often recommend replacing the water pump when you get your timing belt done, as they are usually located together.

My car only overheats in traffic but is fine on the highway. What’s wrong?

This is a classic sign of an airflow issue rather than a coolant issue. It often means your radiator thermo fans aren't turning on to pull air through the radiator when the car is stationary.
