My car air conditioner is blowing warm air. Does it just need a re-gas?

It is the most common cause, but simply adding more gas won't fix the problem if there is a leak. If the refrigerant has escaped, "topping it up" is a waste of money because it will just leak out again. At Pearson Automotive, we perform a comprehensive pressure test first to identify any leaks or failed components. Once we confirm the system is sealed and holding pressure, we then re-gas it to the manufacturer's specifications to ensure icy cold air.

Why does my car smell musty when I turn the AC on?

That unpleasant "gym sock" smell is usually caused by bacteria, mould, or fungi growing on the evaporator core behind your dashboard, or a clogged cabin air filter. It’s not just unpleasant; it’s unhealthy to breathe in. We can fix this by replacing your cabin air filter and performing an anti-bacterial treatment that sanitises the system, leaving your car smelling fresh and the air clean.

How often should I get my air conditioning serviced?

We recommend an air conditioning service every 1 to 2 years. Even a healthy system can lose up to 10% of its refrigerant gas each year through natural permeation, which slowly reduces its efficiency. Regular servicing also ensures the oil in the system circulates correctly, which keeps the compressor lubricated and prevents expensive failures down the track.

My AC makes a strange noise when I turn it on. What is that?

Grinding, squealing, or rattling noises when you engage the AC are warning signs you shouldn't ignore. This could indicate a worn drive belt, a failing compressor bearing, or debris in the blower fan. Since the compressor is the heart of the system and one of the most expensive parts to replace, catching these noises early can often save you from a much bigger repair bill.

How long does an aircon service take?

A standard re-gas and service typically takes between 45 minutes to an hour. However, if we find a leak that requires repairs, it may take longer. Because we are conveniently located opposite Milton Station, many of our customers drop their car off in the morning, catch the train to work, and pick up a fully cooled car on their way home.
