- Includes radiator, cooling fan, engine coolant, engine coolant temperature sensors, flow regulators such as the thermostat. The engine cooling system is crucial to the safe running and longevity of your car's engine. With a malfunctioning cooling system, your car's engine might only last seconds before major internal damage results!
The engine cooling system works by pumping liquid coolant or water throughout the engine in narrow passages, cavities and hoses, heat is absorbed by the coolant, and then the coolant passes through a radiator, which, with cooler airflow passing through the radiator's core, reduces the temperature of the coolant and recycles the cooled liquid back into the engine. This keeps the engine warm enough for efficient operation, but not so hot as to overheat engine parts. Overheating leads to failure of parts and even siezure of moving parts in extreme cases. Cracking of major engine parts like the cyclinder head, or multiple cyclinder heads as in V6 and V8 motors is common during overheating.
Radiator coolant can be pure water, sometimes with a proporation of a chemical coolant, with anti-corrosives and other additives like anti-freeze, and sometimes just pure chemical coolant.
So you can see that an efficient and maintained cooling system is essential to the reliability and value of your car. Pearson Automotive of Milton's trained mechanics will include inspection in your next service or new car logbook warranty service. |
